This year we are pleased to welcome Roberta CARRERI from the Odin Teatret and Fabio Ezechiele SFORZINI from the Théâtre des Grands Chemins



Theatre Total project


Théâtre Total project is a learning platform devised by the Théâtre des Grands Chemins and Hippocampe.
Workshops at Théâtre Total aim to examine a specific subject from various points of view, offering the opportunity for actors to experiment with the various languages which will result in, amongst other things, the acquisition of ‘self-knowledge based on new approaches’.


THE WORKSHOP

This workshop reflects the founding principles of Théâtre Total, an activity that does not distinguish stylistics and crosses established boundaries.

This year, we are going to be looking at the relationship between literary text and movement, with Roberta CARRERI and Fabio Ezechiele SFORZINI - both authors, actors, directors and teachers.

The course is aimed at both jobbing actors and those who are currently seeking to become professionals in performance art, and who want to develop an approach to acting based on the relationship between movement and the spoken word. 



1st part







Roberta Carreri
LA DANSE DES INTENTIONS


From 29 July to 3 August 2019
30 hours


The workshop with Roberta Carreri will be divided into two parts. The first part will concentrate on the actor’s physical training - on the awakening of the actor’s scenic presence. The second part will focus on voice work, comprising exercises to awaken a new vocal sonority and develop a capacity to make vocal actions within the space. The aim of the workshop is to transmit, in a relatively short period of time, the basis of training.
The workshop will focus on the following aspects:

• perception of your own presence in relation to the space and to the other actors on stage
• how to be present within the action and at the same time be ready to react
• how to find the axis of your body, and how to work with “in-tensions”
• how to achieve dynamic immobility
• the creation of physical and vocal actions, and how to realize them with different qualities of energy
• how to explore different qualities of energy through the regard
• work on slow motion
• vocal training using several body resonators
• the relationship between vocal and physical actions
Each participant is required to commit to memory a song and a text of at least 20 lines
About Roberta Carreri

Roberta Carreri is a teacher, actor and writer. Born in Milan/Italy in 1953, she is a qualified graphic designer and studied the history of art at Milan University.
She joined the Odin Teatret in 1974, active member of the ISTA (International Schools Theatre Association) since 1980 she studied the theatral techniques of Japan, India, Bali and China, which have been an influence on her work both on stage and in the classroom.
From 1980 to 1986 she was a student of Japanese Masters such as Katsuko Azuma (Nihon Buyo dancer), Natsu Nakajima and Kazuo Ohno (Butoh dancer).
She has organised acting workshops all around the world and presents her professional career with her conference performance ‘traces in the snow’. She has also written ‘Tracce’ which was published in 2007 by Edizioni II Principe Costante, Milan (Italy)


2nd part







Fabio Ezechiele SFORZINI 

 
Alchemy body / text

From 5 to 10 August 2019
36 hours


Work is based on the production of a theatrical composition to be performed using a gestural and vocal score.
The aim is to ensure that the spectator cannot dissociate the elements it comprises; that s/he perceives a ‘whole’.
A Thought is borne by energy, this energy is condensed into an emotion and the emotion becomes either a physical movement or speech - or both - which render the Thought visible.
Strength, vigour, lightness, delicacy, grace... the body bends, doubts, hesitates and straightens up, acting out the Thought in all its forms which emanate from within.
Each day, we will address the text both musically and sensitively. Our objective will be to develop an emotional, ephemeral and mobile approach that will allow us to fully explore its colours and dramatic range - rather than to develop a definitive interpretation.

In parallel, we will examine the fundamental notions of movement based on the experience of composing a score.
We will be seeking to understand the source and the path of energy, as well as its role in the various speeds of movement and ‘sense’ it exudes.

Daily training

Tools for the memorisation of a text/taking a physical approach to a text

Sonority, resonance, strength and intimacy

Musicality of text

Work on the meaning and metaphors of the text (the line between abstract and concrete).

Approach to corporel vocabulary (segments, expressions)/study of possible strategies for creating a gestural score/work on ‘muscular acting’/approach to concrete and abstract gests.

Practical application of the interdependency between the text and actions.

Choice of rhythm and aesthetics for scores

Work on meaning (dramaturgy of the actor, director and the spectator).

Notions of Mime Corporel Dramatique

Non-psychological emotions and feelings, the role of breathing in presence, the conditions and precision of the actor’s performance.
In parallel with the composition element, this workshop looks at the actor’s tools for the creative process; his/her capacity for choice; his/her place and relationship with the director on the piece in production.

About Fabio Ezechiele

Versatile performance artist, Director of chantiers de recherche en Alchimie Corps-Texte since 2004 and co-director of the Théâtre Total Project learning platform and, since 2009, artistic co-director (with Sofie Sforzini) of the Théâtre des grands Chemins.

Following a debut in street theatre, he went on to train in the field of decrousien corporel mime on a journey that took him from the Commedia dell'Arte to the contemporary theatre of Ferruccio Soleri to the Odin Teatret.

His acting repertoire includes a large and diverse range of classical, contemporary, gesture, mime and Commedia dell'Arte theatre performances.
